How I teach
One thing I've noticed about many teaching methods — whether from a book or another teacher — is the quick-and-easy approach: how fast you can learn with the smallest amount of effort. While I appreciate and encourage fast learning, important foundational information is lost in translation, and many students are missing, or are never taught, the fundamentals of music.
Learning music theory is just as important as being able to play a tune on the piano. I like to build a firm comprehension of music so that when the time comes to present a student with any sheet music, they will not only be able to play it — they'll be able to progress.
“I believe the use of suitable musical material, logically presented, will spark a student's interest in music.”
